SPRING Singapore held its first career fair in partnership with the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) yesterday aimed at full-time national servicemen (NSFs), featuring job opportunities from 60 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The fair, called Careers@Singapore Enterprises, saw exhibiting SMEs from key local sectors such as engineering and food & beverage offer more than 1,400 jobs to over 3,000 job-seekers, including NSFs who will be completing their national service and be workforce-ready in the next six months. Apart from introducing themselves and the jobs available, the SMEs conducted career talks and on-site job interviews with interested candidates at the event.
“SMEs on their growth journey offer a wide range of good jobs that provide young talents with a broad range of exciting experiences as part of their learning and career development. Careers@Singapore Enterprises is a good platform for companies to showcase the meaningful career opportunities in SMEs and recruit fresh talents on board,” said Chew Mok Lee, assistant chief executive of Spring Singapore.
Many of the exhibiting companies also participated in the SME Talent Programme (STP), an initiative by Spring that matches students and recent Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and polytechnic graduates with SMEs and offers benefits to prospective employees such as sign-on bonuses and supported training programmes. Such co-funding support aims to encourage companies to hire fresh talent and job-seekers to find good careers in the SME sector.
