Top 10 Companies Malaysians Want to Work for in 2017

JobStreet.com, Asia’s leading online employment marketplace recently unveiled the top 10 companies Malaysians aspire to work for. The result is based on the JobStreet.com Top 10 Companies 2017 survey which involved 10,241 Malaysians across all position levels, and aims to determine what the majority of professionals think are great companies to join, and the reasons for joining these companies.

According to the survey, topping the list is Google Malaysia. The U.S based tech giant well-known for its culture of work-life balance managed to push itself all the way to the top, shifting two levels up from last year. Petronas and Shell Malaysia comes in second and third respectively, securing their strong presence in the top three list for two years consecutively.

Sime Darby maintains its fourth place and Air Asia Berhad nabs the fifth place this year. Completing the Top 10 list in order of ranking are Maybank, Nestle Malaysia, Intel Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Eco World Development Group Berhad. As for the first time, Eco World made its debut in the 2017 list.

The survey further highlighted that Malaysians prioritised career development opportunities as the main reason they want to work with top companies. Benefits and Incentives appeared as their next top reason while salary was stated as the third reason, indicating that monetary compensation still remains as an important consideration across all position levels although it is not the top factor.

  • Company reputation or employer brand value

“In this new economy, it is no longer sufficient to attract talents through financial benefits or incentives. Today, companies need to compete for talents through strategic and unique approaches that differentiate themselves from competitors. In addition, six out of the top 10 companies that Malaysians aspire to work for turned out to be Malaysian companies, showcasing local companies’ ability and needs to compete alongside foreign multinational corporations in attracting and retaining talents, as well as meeting talents’ career aspirations.
