Human resources is a role that is needed in every sector, including healthcare. HR in each sector are required to have different skills and understanding around the work they do. Especially in healthcare sectors, most employers would require their HR to have at least a good standard of health education and related work experience. 

On a personal level, HR professionals in the health sector will need to be both tactful and friendly and there might be a necessity to be firm too. Work responsibilities

A typical day for HR officer in healthcare would usually involve:

  • Providing staff training and development opportunities.
  • Ensuring that staff are getting the correct pay and benefits.

  • Dealing with both complaints and disciplinary procedures.
  • promoting equality, and health and safety
  • Advising on pay negotiations, redundancy and applicable employment laws.
  • Establishing HR policies and procedures.
  • Writing procedural handbooks for staff.

HR in this sector will work closely with administration staff as well as others in the wider healthcare team. You will possibly work with both clinical and non-clinical managers, as well as would not normally have direct contact with patients.

Entry requirements

A good standard of general education, good computer skills and previous office experience is advantageous. Some employers will prefer that you have a qualification in HR management – those offered by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) for example.

Based on Zip Recruiter review, HR healthcare makes an average $103,664 per year, or $2,398 more than the national average annual salary of $101,266. This amount ranks number 1 out of 50 states nationwide for HR healthcare salaries.
