SINGAPORE – A food centre stall in Toa Payoh has offered a generous $1,000 bonus for staff hired to work before the Chinese New Year holiday.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the owners of Ugglimuffins at Block 127 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 are also offering an hourly pay of $8 for the festive period.
The Chinese daily reported that business has been brisk at the food centre and stall owners are finding it hard to hire adequate help.
Ugglimuffins owner Mr Chen Zhi Bin said that he had put up a hire notice for a $7-an-hour job a month ago but did not manage to hire anyone. He then decided to increase the hourly pay to $8 but still did not receive any response. That was when he decided to include a $1,000 bonus to entice potential workers.
Although job seekers have finally started to approach him about the position, Mr Chen emphasises that applicants will need to go through and pass a 5-hour trial shift before they can be hired.
The stall has reportedly hired university student Mr Xu De Wei, 23, for the position. “His performance is good and he should be able to get the $1,000 bonus,” Mr Chen said.
Mr Xu told Shin Min that he did not know of the $1,000 bonus offer when he applied for the job. His job requires him to be at the stall for 8 hours a day, 7 days a week until the end of the month.
In total, Mr Xu says he could up to $1,920 not including the bonus. If he receives the $1,000 bonus, he could earn close to $3,000 this month.
