Unveiling the line-up of Singapore’s Best Companies to Work for in Asia, HR Asia recently hosted a night of reverie and announced the top twenty companies in Singapore as ranked by 5,800 employees across the country. The gala dinner and awards programme was held at Marina Bay Sands last week.
The awards were solely based on a proprietary survey that assesses the company’s working environment, HR practices, employee engagement and the resulting job satisfaction.
Among the winners were Equinix Singapore, Robert Bosch, and TWG Tea Company. CEOs and human resources directors of the winning companies were presented with the awards trophy by William Ng, group publisher and editor-in-chief of Business Media International. Also present at the awards ceremony was Kulshaan Singh, CEO of Mercer Singapore.
The award is a culmination of six months of on-ground survey, with 5,800 employees from 160 companies across Singapore responding to the HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia Survey.
Respondents answered questions ranging from how they feel about their workplace and employment to their willingness to recommend their friends to work for their companies. Key sentiment among Singaporean employees is that they are fully aware of what is expected from them at work but are not sufficiently empowered to grow and develop themselves.
Explaining what differentiates winners from others, William Ng said, “Strong companies understand that attracting the right talents is only one half of the equation. Retaining today’s mobile talent requires well-planned engagement programmes, which keep people productive and happy at work.”
Singapore has dropped five places to fifteenth in the latest World Talent Ranking produced by the Swiss business school, IMD. Its place as the only Asian representation among the top 10 rankings has been taken over by Hong Kong.
“It is not that Singapore has fallen behind in its capability to build, attract and retain talents, but regional competitors have picked up pace. Competition is no longer confined to products and services, and even innovation, but is now about our ability to provide the talents necessary to power businesses,” says Ng.
