SINGAPORE — The Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) is seeking to enhance transport services for migrant workers during weekends.
The centre said it plans to do this by collaborating with the Singapore School and Private Hire Bus Owners’ Association (SSPHBOA), the Singapore School Transport Association and the Dormitory Association of Singapore Limited.
The MWC also wants to explore new routes and improve bus scheduling and safety measures.
Currently, there are more than 200 buses transporting migrant workers to and from popular leisure spots during their rest days.
The collaboration will allow MWC to disseminate information on employment rights and fair working conditions in the various migrant worker languages (English, Mandarin, Tamil and Bengali) to them.
On buses with audiovisual systems, videos illustrating the types of real-life cases that the centre has attended to will be played.
The centre hopes this new form of outreach will raise awareness of its services among the workers.
