The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has announced several projects which will create over a million jobs for unemployed youth in 29 villages.

“The government has allocated RM137 million to carry out three programmes, namely the 21st Century Village, Sustainable Village and Large Scale Modern Agriculture Village,” its minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal was reported as saying in The Star.

Tapping into the tourist market, the ministry hopes that the charms of rustic unique villages would drive growth.

“Not all foreign tourists will stay at luxury hotels, some prefer the environment. They like unique homestay houses made out of wood, rattan, bamboo and have roofs made of palm fronds,” said Shafie.
