SINGAPORE: The government is looking into making the Progressive Wage Model, which ensures workers’ pay scales rise in tandem with skills-upgrading, compulsory in the landscaping sector.

No deadline has been set for implementation, but a tripartite cluster comprising government, union and employer representatives will be formed to assess how the model can be mandated in the sector.

Landscaping will join the cleaning and security industries as the third sector to adopt the Progressive Wage Model.

In total, the Manpower Ministry expects the targeted interventions to impact more than 80,000 local low-wage workers.
