KOTA KINABALU: A major company in Sabah has chipped in to provide disabled youths with skills training to enable them to get jobs.
BTC Corporation Bhd, which is involved in food services, supermarket chains and textile trading, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sabah Education Department on the skills training programme.
The company will also provide living quarters for the disabled youths.
The signing ceremony on Wednesday was witnessed by the wife of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni and state Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad.
Jainab praised BTC Corporation’s social initiative efforts.
“We hope the police and the Labour Department will pay special attention to disabled workers. We need to introduce legislation to deal with abuse or sexual harassment of disabled workers,” she said, citing the case of a handicapped worker who was raped by three of her foreign male colleagues.
