Over 130 Corporate teams competed for glory and raised funds for charity in this year’s Bloomberg Square Mile Relay 2016 held in Singapore. More than 1,300 runners took part in the fourth annual Bloomberg Square Mile Relay, racing through the Lion City’s financial district.
Macquarie was once again crowned as the evening’s fastest team for the fourth year running, with a cumulative time of 54 minutes and 4 seconds, receiving a charitable cheque of S$10,000 which they donated to HOME.
Macquarie team captain, David Luboff said: “The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is a wonderful event and we are grateful to Bloomberg for organising it. We are also pleased to share that Macquarie will be matching the winning prize of S$10,000 and will donate an additional S$10,000 to our charity of choice, HOME.”
Competing fiercely for the first place were Saxo Capital Markets and Standard Chartered Bank coming in just behind Macquarie in a time of 55 minutes and 42 seconds, and 56 minutes 31 seconds respectively. Individually, the fastest runner Ned Needham, from Pagegroup, completed the 1.6km route in an incredible time of 4 minutes and 55 seconds. Sportcares Foundation were the inaugural winners of the Fastest Mixed Team award, with a time of 1:05:41.
A new award category was introduced this year in recognition of the increasing number of female runners – SportCares Foundation bagged the inaugural award for “Fastest Mixed Team” with a combined running time of 65 minutes and 41 seconds.
“We would like to thank our partners, clients, sponsors and employees for their good spirit and participation in support of charity. Congratulations to Macquarie on their winning glory tonight,” said Andrea Mosconi, Head of ASEAN, Bloomberg L.P.
The route for this year’s event had been completely revamped to take full advantage of Singapore’s stunning skyline, as runners navigate tight turns, sharp bends and flights of stairs. The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay course is set to not only challenge the returning runners on the start line, but also offered a unique, fun and exciting route for first-time participants.
The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay now takes place in seven cities across the world, including London, Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Sydney and New York, with further cities to be added in 2017. Hong Kong is next to take the baton, holding the final race of the 2016 Global Relay Series on 10 November.
