Malaysia’s Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) is planning to use RM900mil to hold training programme for workers next year, announced Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran when speaking to reporters at Parliament lobby on Tuesday (Dec 11).

“The HRDF will move forward towards training about 1.2 million Malaysian workers in 2019, utilising the RM900mil Human Resources Development (HRD) levy that the fund will collect from its registered employers,” he said.

As part of the move, Mr. Kulasegaran said that the ministry will work to harmonise with the HRDF to ensure that all Malaysian employees whose companies are registered with HRDF. The ministry will also help local employees to upskill and reskill so they can meet the challenges of automation and digitalisation.

Earlier in the Dewan Rakyat, Kulasegaran assured lawmakers that both civil and criminal action would be taken against high-ranking HRDF staff who misappropriated about RM100mil or one third of the RM300mil in the fund, The Star Online reports.

He said that reports were lodged with the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Companies Commission of Malaysia.

“The investigation is also being carried out by the Governance Oversight Committee and action will be taken. However, since the matter is still under investigation, I cannot reveal much.”
