Companies in Singapore are increasingly facing a labour crunch and the Singapore government’s focus on skills upgrading comes at the perfect time. If we can’t expand our workforce, then we have to make them more productive. Developing our current workforce is a winning strategy in these circumstances. All across South-East Asia, employee training and upskilling is becoming increasingly crucial to economic success.
Some of the common challenges facing employers in training and upskilling their staff include the cost of not just hiring trainers but loss of productivity from attendees as well as rental of training location. These were the main problems that Street Smart Mobile Pte Ltd sought to address in building their product. Their platform enables users to learn conveniently anywhere and at an affordable price-point. Corporations can purchase accounts for their staff or use it as a blended learning tool to create a rich training experience. Larger corporations might find it worthwhile to use a white-labelled version where proprietary training content is only accessible by authorised personnel.
Citing the challenges employers faced in increasing productivity, Co-Founder Fazil Musa comments, “People are the lifeblood of any company and if staff is not properly trained, it can have very adverse effects on a company’s bottom line. While it might be difficult to ensure consistency and quality of training, putting it on video and allowing staff to continually refer to it is a good start.” Co-founder Imran also notes that, “There are a multitude of ways that companies can use our platform. One of the most effective ways would be to use the online platform to supplement live programmes by incorporating a blended approach. This enables the trainer to engage the audience before, during and after the programme.
Their consumer version of the platform, Street Smart University will launch privately on the 5th of March, 2015, interested parties can create an account at www.StreetSmartUniversity.co. During the private launch, all premium content on Street Smart University will be accessible to users at no charge.
