Compared to 50 years ago, companies today are much more modern. According to Career Builder survey, there are few differences of our work style today compared to the previous era. The new style of working today is more flexible, focuses on efficiency, and gives more freedom, while 50 years ago, the work style tended to be stiff timing-command and control model.
The survey also found that 1 in 4 employees believe that old work style is not enough to be implemented at the workplace as it has a low chance to improve productivity, performance, and employee’s future career. On the contrary, majority (80 percent) respondents are willing to put extra efforts if the company adapts to a new work style. The report noted that employees prefer to work with flexibility and adopt work style that does not limit them to express themselves in the office space.
Study commissioned from GigaOm shared similar findings. The report showed that technology has supplied business with tools that change the way we do business such as mobile phone, SMS, social networkers, instant messaging, and video conference. The report also noted that 70 percent managers allow flexible working, 62 percent companies allow employee to work remotely, and 68 percent managers say they trust flexible workers to be as productive as those working in office.
It is concluded that new work style has changed how we communicate, work, and collaborate with each other. The new work style is more efficient, productive, and fun. No wonder, companies that focuses towards implementing modern ways of working are more likely to increase productivity, boost employees engagement, as well as improve business bottom line.
